3rd Night

Even more "origin stories"

After a viewing of The Train Job, the players settled down to four more snippets displaying the past of the soon-to-be crew of Guardian Angel.

First up we witnessed Lilly back in her days as an Alliance Sgt. fighting during the Unification War. Sgt Van Couver's squad had just lost their XO, Lt. Dresden, and it was up to Lilly to lead the group. After sending away the rest of the squad to the next rendezvous point she turned her attention on Pvt. Lee, one very scared soldier. Failing in reassuring the Pvt, Lilly picked up and carried her squad mate to where a Pvt. Joe was guarding a captured Browncoat. Lilly attempted to extract information from the enemy, failed, and resorted to beating the man unconscious. And thus we learned where Lilly learned to think with her fists.

Next up we went back over two decades into the past to watch as young Wilhelm Stirner desperately sought a way to pay for medical school. The Syndicate had learned of Wil's prowess and background and figured him a good prospect to add to their resources, and as such sent forth "Smooth Louie" to offer the kid a grant of sorts. Wil met Louie at an oddly empty Chinese restaurant, where the kid listened quietly to Louie offer him an apparently no-strings-attached deal to pay for his schooling. Wil only became suspicious when Louie off-handedly remarked about recording the conversation, but in the end accepted the money and went off to medical school. And as such we saw the first steps Mr. Stirner made towards getting his Deadly Enemy.

The night continued when a scene started that looked at the early days of Rufus trolling clubs for chicks. The man simultaneously approached and caroused with two women, all having a good time and it seemed like he was going to land both ladies until the one girl's brother (who also happened to be the other girl's fiancé, and an Alliance security officer to boot) stopped them. The officer seemed to be more concerned about his sister than his women, much to said lady's disappointment, and yet somehow Rufus managed to slip away. Oh, but not before emptying out the sister's purse of everything first! Really, this was a pretty typical night for the crew's future driver.

To wrap up the evening there came a scene with the future captain, Cal. At a pool hall where the just graduated and newly hired (thanks to his dad's connections) man was making a tidy profit betting on his game, Cal faced off against a new challenger. This man lost badly to Calvin, barely won a double or nothing game, and then revealed that Cal had stolen the position from him (apparently the job as this guy's until Cal's dad's influence made the company reconsider) and bet his new shiny ship against Cal's job. Cal, looking at the ship and suddenly sure that he wanted to be a captain of a ship and not some drone in a cubicle, accepted the wager (still believing he'd win easily.) But his opponent had hustled him, and despite a strong attempt by Cal, the hustler won and Cal was left shipless and jobless. Overconfidence reared it's ugly head, but at least Cal now knew his calling in life.

  1. You fail to mention that I punched unconscious the guy who beat me at pool.

  2. True, I had forgotten that.
But I don't remember "Sore Loser" being one of Cal's traits.
